I took the same hotel room than last february, something a little trash (see the view before from this link and after, up the page, doesn’t show the room though). On the other side of the tiny street they are adding these days two new floors to my neighbouring building, and my view is getting obstructed. Today the workers were pouring some concrete on the structure of what will be the roof or the floor of the other storeys in the future. Everyone who spent some time in India noticed these metallic rods sticking out of the corners of the roofs, belonging to the structure of the buildings : that’s the possibility to build one or more storeys whenever the need strikes.

So the workers poured and spreaded the concrete so well and with such an energy that some concrete ended up on my opened window, and also on the floor of my room, while I was roaming around the city somewhere : amazing ability of the « LACHER-PRISE » !!! It comes just at the moment when I found a new room on the roof of an hotel with opened view and a terrasse : good, otherwise I should have bought some security boots to walk around the actual room.

Two minutes away from my hotel stretches the main road of the area of Main Bazar, street still so over-crowded. I admire somehow their endless capacity to live in the Bronx (french expression meaning « the big mess »). Over the top of the density, add this feeling of a city in constant « Work on progress », a kind of El Dorado for those who love things that started but never ended. Fifteen years now that I yearly come in India, and I noticed that the popular area are not the only target of the « Work in progress » where articulations of the body don’t worth much, I just went a few times yet to Connaught place, heart of the city, looking a bit « British raj », delhiite shop front of the big brands and also of the century old local indian establishments : holes, bumps, rubbles, pipes waiting to chanel something, trashes, rubbishes, victorian old metallic structures rustying in the open sky, all the mess of a city « Work in progress ». My indian friends, don’t get it wrong, for me it’s ok, it gives me a change from the righteousness of a perfect lawn, of a perfect looking streets, perfect looking houses, cars too clean, stainless clothes even of the poors, of the nevrosis from the constant rules to follow, of the pathologies of the straight minds, of the unison of the birds’singings (do they learn to sing in an army base?)

At the Imperial cinema the day after they showed the « porn-gore » movie (see first topic of this travel diary) they showed an other story in the same spirit : « Bandit Queen » or the history of Phoolan devi. It’s just like if you were injecting to this « porn-gore gang-raping movie » the energy of a John Wayne in « She wore a yellow ribbon ». Phoolan Devi is a young girl when she got gang-raped by a bunch of idiots. At first, right after she joined a gang of dacoïts (thieves) with the aim to accomplish her revenge. That’s what she did, then she got caught by the police, put in jail, and finally when she got out of jail she became later minister. Then in 2001 she got murdered by a guy who wanted to get revenge for the crime of 22 upper-caste men who got supposedly killed by Phoolan Devi`s dacoits.

This first film then the second the day right after : what is built one day is de-built the day after … always « Work on progress » !
