End of the tattooing after 1h30

Ouf !

MY BAIGA TATTOO
Before meeting some members of the Baiga ethnie, I went to meet the ethnic group who tattoos in this region of Eastern Madhya Pradesh and Western Chhatisgarh, the Badi whose women tattoo and are called the Badnin. But even if it is only women who get tattooed in this area, in the Badi group, men and women are tattoo artists, both. This ethnie pretends to be part of the Gonds, one of the many sub-groups. The family you are going to meet are the Maravi. The father is Chamar Singh, the very famous mother is Shanti Bhai, then comes in order from oldest to youngest the four sisters also tattoo artists : Ram Bhai, Mina Bhai, Jamani Bhai et Mangla Bhai. A Badi weds a Badi, their children will be then Badi and tattoo artists.
Most of the social and ethnic groups from around here get something tattooed, excepted some hindus therefore non-tribal. Most of the tribals though claim to be part of the Gond ethnic group.
One of the other major group is the Baiga, the ethnic group in which almost all the women are fully tattooed, excepted the chest, breast and genital parts. But this is changing and the young generation, partly, stops being tattooed.
Then the Maravi family explains me a few aspects of the practice of the tattoo making. The « machine » first, then the ink and the aftercare product.
There was nobody around to get inked and I was craving to see the process by my own eyes, so what else to do that to give my own leg ? Sometimes you have to pay by your own person ...
I choose to create a design inspired from the Baiga culture, Shanti Bhai improvised it on paper, then by alternance Shanti, her husband Chamar and her youngest daughter Mangla tattooed me. Two hours later the new tattoo was inked.
Now I feel like being a bit more part of the place, it amuses some people around here. On the third day after being tattooed, I had no fever, no infection, it is healing well. Yes !
